Video interview: Defiant

Croatian death/black metal band Defiant is a well established name on the local and international scene. Hailing from Požega, Defiant is influenced by great bands such as Behemoth, Vader and Hate, but their sound is unique and heavy. It numbers four members: Kris on guitars, Tomislav on vocals, Gojo on bass guitar, and Leo on drums.

Formed in 2005, the band has had a lucky streak of thirteen years on stage. In addition to being active performers, they released three studio albums. The first album, “The End of the Beginning” was released back in 2006. Following this album, the band managed to tour extensively and play several European shows.

“Era of Substitutions” was released in 2012. The band went through several line up changes in the six years between their first and second album, but “Era of Substitutions” was well received and the band didn’t waste time in making new material. “Morbid Spiritual Illness” came out in 2015, and showed off the band’s consistency and determination.

Insurrection Icon” is the band’s latest release. It was recorded in Czech Republic at Hellsound Studio, and released via Art Gates Records at May 25th 2018. It was this album that took Defiant on yet another series of shows. After Romania, Bulgaria and Czech Republic, the band returned to Croatia to play at Dark Circle Fest V in Rijeka. We had the chance to talk with Tomislav before their concert about the band’s new material, tours and future plans. If you want to know more, enjoy the video below!
