Thy Row: Quarantine Story

by Ivona Bogner

Founded in 2017, Thy Row offers up a fresh mix of old-school heavy metal with modern hard rock. Ville Vase shares his Quarantine Story with us today.

Hi! How are you doing during corona outbreak?
I’m fine, thank you. I am in self-determined isolation at my summer house.

What have you cancelled/postponed due coronavirus?
Thy Row has cancelled a few gigs but we have been using our time wisely. We’ve been writing new songs, practicing instruments and also have been making final adjustments for upcoming music videos. It’s been hectic. Who would have guessed?

How the global coronavirus pandemic is directly impacting bands?
Badly. This is a real blow to the industry. You’ve seen people losing their jobs. Inequality between industries. So..bad, definitely.

How are you keeping your fans during this chaotic period?
It has been difficult because there haven’t been any gigs where we usually meet our fans. We have been updating our social media and informed that the wait will soon be rewarded.

What will metal look like when we re-emerge from isolation?

The whole live scene will grow considerably. People want to see live acts. There’s so much growing talent in the metal scene. Now it has been silent during isolation and when the gigs start normally there will be so much energy seen on the stage!

Who will suffer the most after all: musicians, organizers promoters…

It’s relative. It depends on how to look at it. Musicians in the short term but organizers in the long run. But there is always a bright side. Maybe we can learn how to prepare for uncertainties in the future. Maybe the industry changes in some direction. We don’t know but we can start to see the possibilities.

What is your isolation soundtrack?
Countdown To Extinction.

Besides gigs, what/whom do you miss the most?
That new releases start to pop again.

Do you have any rehearsals during quarantine? If yes, how do they look like?
Yes, we have plenty of rehearsals during that time. Mostly with different line-ups but it has structured songwriting a lot.

Thank you so much for your time. Stay safe!
You too. Thanks!
