The Occult: QUARANTINE STORY

by Vjeran

In Corona Corner, we are asking musicians how the outbreak has effected them, how did they adapt to the situation, what did they learn.

Hi! How are you doing during corona outbreak?
Well….it seems like it’s over now so fingers crossed!

What have you cancelled/postponed due coronavirus?
The album release. We kept trying to execute a plan to release it but there were just more lockdowns, more uncertainty and we realized that until they lifted all the restriction we would just rehearse until all this shit was over with. Now that most places are open, it was a perfect time to book gigs and set a date for the record launch & release date, which is now August 19th of this year.

How the global coronavirus pandemic is directly impacting bands?
I mean, nobody could tour which was a disaster for bands. A lot of bands had to break up or find other ways to make money.

How are you keeping your fans during this chaotic period?
For us, we were a brand new band, we didn’t even have an official drummer until 4 months ago so honestly the fans that we had were waiting it out like the rest of us. No choice in the matter really.

What will metal look like when we re-emerge from isolation?
Well, that has already started to happen. Bands are touring and playing for people. I think we’ve spent enough time in isolation that we need to be together again celebrating life with music.

Who will suffer the most after all: musicians, organizers promoters…
I think everyone suffered the last 2 + years. People lost their jobs, their livelihoods, It’s time to reclaim our community and play to the people.

What is your isolation soundtrack?
Paradise Lost put out a new record during the pandemic called Obsidian. I was killing that for a while. That and the record before called Medusa, which is a goddamned masterpiece. Devy was also very active online which certainly helped me get through this fucking nightmare.

Besides gigs, what/whom do you miss the most?
My friends and family that I couldn’t see. Going to shows and just hanging out. It was an awful time really and I’m more than thankful that it’s fucking over.

Do you have any rehearsals during quarantine? If yes, how do they look like?
Oh ya, we rehearsed like crazy. There was really nothing else to do. No shows, nothing. Everything was closed so we just played and played.

Thank you so much for your time. Stay safe!
Thank you!
