The MothMan Curse: Quarantine story

by Metal Jacket

In Corona Corner, we are asking musicians how the outbreak has effected them, how did they adapt to the situation, what did they learn. Read their Corona experience.

Hi! How are you doing during corona outbreak?
Hi, I’m Rat the lead singer of The MothMan Curse.  I am / are doing quite well despite this very sad situation.

What have you cancelled/postponed due coronavirus?
This year we really canceled some wonderful events.  After a long time we were able to be included in fairly large festivals as well as having 3 dates in Italy at the opening of Venom Inc. let’s say we are unlucky.

How the global coronavirus pandemic is directly impacting bands?
In my opinion for small groups like us it is literally destroying the opportunities to make themselves known.  Many people do not work and without promotions or paying advertisements it is very difficult to make yourself known in this environment.  Especially not being able to play live.

How are you keeping your fans during this chaotic period?
We honestly don’t know.  We can share material recorded in recent years and at the same time be present on social networks but it is not very easy

What will metal look like when we re-emerge from isolation?
Metal like all music will be beautiful.  The problem is “when will we re-emerge”.  Everything will probably be handled differently.  Already metal was little considered in Italy now I think it is even more difficult.  But you don’t give up.

Who will suffer the most after all: musicians, organizers promoters…
I believe triple A artists and all workers in the industry.  For us, who are still a small group and therefore have a job in other areas to support ourselves.  Of course the desire to play is very high and also to let us know.  But in the monetary field it doesn’t change much for us.

What is your isolation soundtrack?
A bit of everything.  Also because I continue to work so the time at home is very little.  Let’s say nothing has changed.  Definitely a mix of angry music and country.

Besides gigs, what/whom do you miss the most?
Besides the concerts I miss my band brothers a lot.  Not being able to see and play together is the thing that makes me sad the most.  And then I miss the audience a lot.  I miss the rhythmic movements of the heads and the people having fun.

Do you have any rehearsals during quarantine? If yes, how do they look like?
We are writing the new album and we have to constantly stop because it becomes impossible for us to see each other.  It is also a bad situation because you cannot 100% vent your ideas.  Luckily our passion is very high and therefore each of us at home is working on his pieces so that as soon as we can see each other we break everything :).

Thank you so much for your time. Stay safe!
Many thanks to you
