In Corona Corner, we are asking musicians how the outbreak has effected them, how did they adapt to the situation, what did they learn.
Like your dishevelled uncle on Christmas morning, Turbo is trashed, pissed off, sleazy, mean, and sick of your shit. “Fast as Fvck is a sort of hommage to true rock and roll in its most vicious and visceral form. Each of the seven tracks hit like a swift kick to the teeth from a whole new angle of attack, but the assault is far from a mindless battering to the eardrums. The album ebbs and flows through different moods and subtleties with sophisticated craftsmanship. Metal enough for the heshers, punk enough for the threshers, and rocking enough to satiate the haughtiest of purests; we in Turbo have patented our own “Nitro-Rock” concoction with our debut album… and this shit is potent.”
Hi! How are you doing during corona outbreak?
Hey there! Not doing too bad through corona, only got sick a couple of times, trying to get used to living life on the down-low, what with quarantine and isolation and all that shiz.
What have you cancelled/postponed due coronavirus?
A lot of shows have been cancelled mostly due to coronavirus. I feel like the entertainment industry as a whole has taken a big big hit.
How the global coronavirus pandemic is directly impacting bands?
Well, isolation has been impacting bands who need to practice obviously. We’ve seen a lot of bands who literally haven’t made it through coronavirus as a result – they just stopped playing and have until now quit the game. Also, the cancellation of shows is an ever-present threat, and it caused a lot of us a lot of grief.
How are you keeping your fans during this chaotic period?
Our fans are pretty stuck to us it seems, but we’ve been trying our best to build a fanbase through social media, like many of our peers do. It’s pretty tricky, and we’re not the best at coming up with content, but our fans have been more than generous with their support. We also have merch for sale through our Bandcamp, and that’s helped to generate a buzz around us.
What will metal look like when we re-emerge from isolation?
Here’s hoping Metal will re-emerge bigger and more victorious than ever! Metal fans haven’t dwindled through isolation at all, and I see more and more acts putting out content for their fans. So here’s hoping it only builds!
Who will suffer the most after all: musicians, organizers promoters…
We all suffer as a collective, as putting on a good show/album/single/whatever is a collective effort. I think the ones who suffer most of all are the fans, to be honest. They’re the ones who have to suffer if a show gets cancelled, or a music video gets delayed, or someone’s merch order gets delayed, or yadda yadda yadda. It’s always the fans who suffer.
What is your isolation soundtrack?
Lately, Spidergawd VI has been ruining my liiiifeee. I’m listening to that album as I answer this in fact. Also, any Immortal album is wicked through the winter, and Wintersun never fails to get my winter juices flowing.
Besides gigs, what/whom do you miss the most?
I miss going out to shows the most. Going in and bumping elbows with everyone else in the scene, maybe schmoozing a bit, no masks, no bullshit. I miss the crazy stories I’d come up with going out on a weeknight randomly. I miss how everything used to be face-to-face. And most of all, I miss playing gigs, of course. I know this question tried to omit that, but I can’t help myself for saying that in totality. I miss the music scene as it was, no-holds-barred.
Do you have any rehearsals during quarantine? If yes, how do they look like?
We have rehearsals every week, and they’re no less viscous than they were pre-quarantine. We come in and play as many songs as we can, we still write pretty prolifically, and we have guests into partying with us/watching us as much as is permitted. Nothing has slowed down on the jam-front for Turbo, and nothing ever will.
Thank you so much for your time. Stay safe!
