The year of 2019 brings several anniversaries to the most famous metal opera, Avantasia. Let’s start from the beginning.
Twenty years ago, multitalented German musician Tobias Sammet, decided to work on supergroup metal opera. At the beginning, the whole project has a concept of rock opera that included various vocalists and musicians. When the Edguy tour “Theater of Salvation” was over, Sammet started collaborating with legends: Michael Kiske, Andre Matos, Kai Hansen, Rob Rock, David Defeis, Sharon den Adel, Bob Catley and Oliver Hartmann. And the “Metal Opera” was born!
Tobias Sammet comments:
When I started the project I hadn’t heard of the Trans Siberian Orchestra, I was a little kid with a dream and his love for Iron Maiden, Kiss, the Scorpions, Braveheart, Meat Loaf, Phantom Of The Opera and Richard Wagner. Now we are facing a tour with many sold outs!
Also, this year Avantasia celebrates nine years of releasing video “Dying For An Angel” with legendary Klaus Meine (Scorpions). The song was originally released on fourth Avantasia album “The Wicked Symphony” (3 April 2010, Nuclear Blast).
And, of course, on February 15, 2019, new album “Moongloow” will be released. “Moonglow” is eight full length album that includes 11 tracks (12 if you count bonus track).
Sammet believes that the “Moonglow” is:
…the adorned and detailed album we’ve ever produced, including Celtic elements, world music elements, big choirs, atmospheric stuff, and amazing guest vocal performances.
“Moonglow” features: Ronnie Atkins (Pretty Maids), Jørn Lande (Masterplan), Eric Martin (Mr. Big), Geoff Tate (Operation:Mindcrime), Michael Kiske (Helloween), Bob Catley (Magnum), Candice Night (Blackmore’s Night), Hansi Kürsch (Blind Guardian) and Mille Petrozza (Kreator).
Avantasia will be touring the world in 2019 promoting upcoming masterpiece “Moonglow”. The tour includes 32 cities, 16 countries and 5 continents. More dates will be announced soon!
