After seven long years, Primalfrost is back! “Lost Elegies” was released on December 27th, 2021. Read what Dean Arnold has to say about his Corona experience.
Hi! How are you doing during corona outbreak?
Doing my best, it’s been hard, to say the least. It’s been incredibly difficult to plan/predict anything music-related, but also work/career-wise as well. The one positive is that it did allow me to get the Primalfrost album done, go back to school, and I did get to go to Europe for a tour with Belphegor before everything got cancelled again (of course).
What have you cancelled/postponed due coronavirus?
Various tours/shows all over have been cancelled/moved/changed etc. in some capacity, I’ve lost track and planning my life around music/touring has been quite difficult. It’s been especially bad for bands that have a full-time touring schedule and now their livelihood is being messed up indefinitely.
How are you keeping your fans during this chaotic period?
This “chaotic period” allowed me to get this Primalfrost album out finally, as the band has been on hiatus for a bit. To bring things back has been a positive surprise for the long-time supporters as well as the new fans with this album being out.
What will metal look like when we re-emerge from isolation?
I think we’ll have a shit ton of new bands/artists putting music out far more so than the last few years. It’s good to see more people making music sure but now it’s even more difficult for artists/talent to be heard and stand out, so I think we certainly have a supply/demand disparity on our hands which isn’t good for the music world as a whole…
Who will suffer the most after all: musicians, organizers promoters…
Everybody is suffering, in and out of the music world. It’s tough to say who is suffering the most but all we can really do is try and pull through for one another and hope for the best.
What is your isolation soundtrack?
Been getting into Deftones as of late believe it or not. I always kind of brushed them off as being one of the nu-metal/rap-metal bands which really isn’t my thing, but I was certainly wrong as most of their catalog is nothing at all like that. The vibe/atmosphere of their music definitely draws parallels to metal subgenres like atmospheric black metal/doom etc.
Besides gigs, what/whom do you miss the most?
I miss having a steady schedule, structure, long-term plans, etc. the pandemic has screwed that up for me and countless others…
Do you have any rehearsals during quarantine? If yes, how do they look like?
I had rehearsals in the Austrian alps before a European tour with Belphegor before the end of the year. Was much like any other band rehearsal except all of us are from different countries, coming prepared beforehand. (Canada, Austria, Czech Republic, and Poland to be exact)
Thank you so much for your time. Stay safe!
