It was Thursday and the day after was still a working day. Taking that into consideration, I wasn’t expecting a lot of people at this event. I am glad I was wrong! A decent amount of people decided to show up and they were in for quite a Black/Death metal treat with three black metal bands playing: Infernal Execrator, Sacrilegious Rite and SitiS!
First band to start was SitiS. In their case, we had a chance to witness an unusual phenomenon. Usually, people are either late or they decide to miss the supporting acts entirely, but here this wasn’t the case. On the contrary, this band seems to have gathered the most people out of the three! Maybe none of this would be that weird if it wasn’t for the fact that this was their first ever live performance and that the band doesn’t have any releases at all. The band also has a sort of an “all-star” line-up fronted by none other than the event’s organizer himself, which resulted in a sizeable number of friends, colleagues and acquaintances gathering to give their full support to this new act.
The rest of the line-up consists of current and former members of Hesperian Death Horse and Pogavranjen. They played a quite experimental type of black metal. They stick to the genre’s principles while still adding different elements into their music, which is nothing unusual judging by the members’ backgrounds. The audience seemed to dig the band’s sound and most of people even considered them to be the best band of the evening. So it can be concluded that the band’s first live performance went more than well. We wish them many more like this!
Unfortunately, the same thing cannot be said for the band that played after them and that band is Sacrilegious Rite. The band’s mixture of black and death metal sounds quite good in a studio setting, but in a live environment the experience wasn’t really the same. The sound didn’t do the band much of a favor and the audience seemed to be uninterested in the band’s perfomance. The fact that there was way less people inside than during SitiS’ performance speaks volumes. As I’ve said before, the band sounds pretty good in a studio setting, but seeing them live just didn’t work out the way it could have.
The last but not least was the headlining act, Infernal Execrator. As many people were outside during Sacrilegious Rite’s performance, it would seem that they were saving energy for Infernal Execrator, which is a completely justifiable reason because this band requires your full attention. They play a very raw mixture of black and death metal, sounding quite aggressive and ferocious. Their live delivery is straight to the point and the band can perfectly replicate the studio sound in a live setting. The audience thoroughly enjoyed the band’s performance and the fact that these guys came here all the way from Singapore is amazing by itself, it can definitely be said that the band’s trip to Croatia payed off. After such a wild performance, we can definitely expect the band’s return to these parts in the near future.
This was overall a great evening of Black and Death with great atmosphere and more or less fantastic live performances. Everyone who attended could go home absolutely satisfied. Even if some bands weren’t as up to par, one can always have a drink and chill outside enjoying the Močvara vibe.
It was a very joyful evening and I can’t wait for more evenings of this type. Luckily for me, the chance to repeat such an experience is coming way sooner than expected. Next weekend, same location, Oluja fest. See you there!
