Nusquama – Horizon Ontheent
1. De Aarde Dorst
Melancholic ambiances swirl around one’s head while the physical existence of the human being is elevated high up in the air. Razor sharp melodies combined with piercing moments of excruciating pain. Sadness, pain, blurred images of hope. A perfect flow of feelings that leads you down a lonely path. Do dwell into these chants, for rage and death can take many shapes.
These Dutch musicians have fused their past influences and elements from their previous musical endeavours in order to create a beast that can stand on its own. What impressed me the most was their ability to create such dark and mournful images without falling into depressive cliches. A powerful, yet sweet, sometimes sad, but never uninspired and in moments Progressive Black Metal piece is crafted, aiming to give, the listener, a kaleidoscope of colours and visions.
Powerful, yet beautiful, a non stoping piercing cold blade tears through your delicate and warm existence. Leaves a hole where once lived an already soulless being. Dig into these master crafters other projects and understand the magick that flows from their minds into each and every one of those instruments.
“Vuurslag” is, in my honest opinion, a perfect example of all the colours that can be found in this album. The vocals, the drums, the guitar riffs… Ufff! Each and every little detail that makes of Nusquama the musical entity that it is.
Embrace the Melodies of old and celebrate the chants of today, for each one of us adds a bit more of ourselves to the great beast that rules us.
