In Corona Corner, we are asking musicians how the outbreak has effected them, how did they adapt to the situation, what did they learn.Brazil is very huge country (takes more or less the half of South America) and Metal scene over there is also very huge. So time to travel to Salvador in Bahia has come. In this city year 1986 (first year name was other, but…) was born legendary and cult, at least for several people, also I’m one of them, ensemble Headhunter D. C. Sérgio “Baloff” Borges is a vocalist since 1989 here and is my Metal brother. Anyways, it’s him who answered the questions connected with shitty Covid-19.
Hi! How are you doing during corona outbreak?
Hey Bart & Metal Jacket! Hope you’re well and safe! I and my family are doing fine here despite all this shitty pandemic situation, thanks for asking! But, unfortunately, around 75.000 people have died of Covid-19 in Brazil to this date, and if it depends on this current fascist and genocidal (mis)government it will be still counting more and more. Fuck Bolsonaro!
What have you cancelled/postponed due to coronavirus?
Well, besides some gigs around Brazil, including the one at this year’s Setembro Negro Festival alongside Angel Witch, Necrot, Masacre, Imprecation, Aderanged, Apokalyptic Raids etc, we also had to postpone the recordings of our new album, scheduled for this second semester. Too bad…
How the global coronavirus pandemic is directly impacting bands?
It’s like a domino effect, so to speak! I mean, having shows cancelled/postponed we stop earning money to put other plans and projects into practice. Anyway, we have to struggle all this and stay safe and strong for the after pandemic – even if the future is still uncertain for all of us in this moment…
How are you keeping your fans during this chaotic period?
We are still very active through our social medias, also giving live interviews etc. We’re also preparing ourselves to record one or two brand new songs soon and possibly release a 7″ EP or even a digital single. Not even a pandemic can stop us!
What will metal look like when we re-emerge from isolation?
Hopefully even darker, more chaotic, dirtier, heavier, louder and ready for new musical revolutions!
Who will suffer the most after all: musicians, organizers, promoters…
All of them, as one depends on the other, so all of us must get united for a goal in common.
What is your isolation soundtrack?
I have listened a lot to both Immolation and Possessed last albums. Also Mortem and Sadistic Intent have helped me a lot in my daily anti-suicide headbanging sessions… Haha!!! Death Metal saves!
Besides gigs, what/whom do you miss the most?
Rehearsing and hanging out with my Metal friends! I also miss my relatives, especially my sisters and further nieces. Fortunately I live with my parents and can take care of them during these hard days.
Do you have any rehearsals during quarantine? If yes, how do they look like?
We haven’t rehearsed since the beginning of the quarantine four months ago actually, and we fucking miss that a lot! Hopefully we can be back to rehearsals real soon and they will look like 5 Death Metal ninjas wearing black masks and playing brutal haunting music… Lol!
Thank you so much for your time. Stay safe!
Thank you for your support! Hope to meet you someday somewhere after this pandemic madness! Stay well and safe! Fuck corona-virus! Fuck Bolsonaro!
