Prog rock titans Dream Theater won the Grammy for best metal performance of the year for the single “The Alien”, and on the occasion of a big world tour in Zagreb, they are coming to the Small Hall of the Sports Hall on Friday, May 27.
The recent Grammy Awards crowned the band with this trophy for the first time, and the song “The Alien” was released on the new album “A View From The Top Of The World”. At the award ceremony, John Petrucci told all prog-rock fans to stay true to the genre because it is alive and, he says, it is good.
The award comes in anticipation of the big Top Of The World tour that accompanies the release of the new album. Zagreb will host the legends of progressive rock music with their complete production, which includes sound system, lighting and video walls, so fans will have the opportunity to enjoy a real audio-visual spectacle.
According to many, Dream Theater is a pioneer of progressive metal, and one of the most important bands of the genre is one of the big three bands that are responsible for its development and popularization. True virtuosos are known for their great instrumentalizations and unforgettable live performances.
In more than 30 years of career, they have sold 15 million albums, two Grammy nominations and one won. “Images & Words” included Rolling Stone in the list of the 100 best metal albums, readers voted “Metropolis Pt. 2: Scenes from a Memory ”as the best prog rock album of all time, and Classic Rock magazine ranked it among the best conceptual. The band is on the Billboard Top 200 with the album “Black Clouds & Silver Linings”, and is enrolled in the Long Island Music Hall of Fame.
The album “A View From The Top Of The World” is the fifteenth release of the band, which explores the boundaries, but also remains true to the sound that brought them millions of fans around the world. It was produced by guitarist and band founder John Petrucci, one of the most notable and innovative heavy metal guitarists of today.
Canadian prog metal singer and guitarist Devin Townsend will perform as a pre-producer. Through three decades of his career, he has become a legend of the metal scene, recording collaborations with Steve Vai, and performing with the bands Strapping Young Lad, The Devin Townsend Band, ie Project. The solo albums, which are characterized by a mix of hard rock and prog metal, but also ambient and new-age music, featured numerous lineups, and the style of music production was compared to those of Phil Spector and Frank Zappa.
