Deface is an Israeli metal band formed in Netanya in 2001 by singer, guitarist and lyricist Michael Korotayev (Mishgan), lead guitarist Paul Mityanin, bassist Vladimir Ladnyuk and Tim Razumovsky on drums.
The band have since experienced multiple line-up changes, with vocalist and guitarist Michael Korotayev being the only constant presence in the band through the years. Their music was influenced by Sepultura, Cannibal Corpse, Napalm Death, but sounds more likely to Entombed or Gorefest, some kind of Death’N’Roll metal.
There is more and more bands coming from the east and I’m delightfully surprised. Finally the world can see how music and the passion can unite the world. So first of all, thanks to the guys for sending us the material, I’m always excited to listen to something new.
Okay, after that being said, let’s see how good they are. I am happy and thrilled to hear new bands, but that doesn’t mean that I’ll be so gentle with critique. Generally I would put them in Death Metal category, and they would fit beautifully. When it comes to the music, I would like to hear each element a bit more clearly. Otherwise, I like the music. Melodies are so strong and you can hear beautiful solo’s. When it comes to Death Metal I really like the rhythm of the drums. The transitions in the individual songs are good, and through album they are done nicely.
Vocals are always something that I like to comment as they can destroy entire idea of the song or album. I really like vocals here, except that weird scream (or attempt to scream) in “Death For All”.
MishGun’s growl is really hypnotic, although he should work on his screaming. Come on dude, you can’t have perfect growl and than not know how to scream to throw someone’s soul out of them.
When it comes to the energy I will just say – wow. You will eventually start banging your head to their songs. You won’t be able to resist it.
All in all, really nice album. Also, I must give some point for 15 songs. That’s a massive album.
Now, since you are off to a good start, keep it going!
