In Corona Corner, we are asking musicians how the outbreak has effected them, how did they adapt to the situation, what did they learn. Are you ready for something different, something chaotic? Ahmed Mahmoud and his band Deathnoisefrequency will open the whole new world for you.
Hi! How are you doing during the corona outbreak?
Doing good! It’s sad to watch the world outside and how suddenly everything shut down! We are grateful for having the loved ones around, home and food, nothing to complain about, just wish that things go back to normal ASAP, you never appreciate things till you lose it.
What have you cancelled/postponed due to coronavirus?
No, we haven’t.
How the global coronavirus pandemic is directly impacting bands?
It did, big time, unfortunately, music bands these days, especially the independent ones and whoever belongs to small music labels, were depending heavily on live shows, selling merchandises and physical formats, now it’s gone, no sustainable income in the coming future as well and nobody knows when it will be allowed back again, so yeah it hard.
How are you keeping your fans during this chaotic period?
We just released a single and it will be followed by an EP, we are engaging with them on emails, Facebook, and Instagram.
What will metal look like when we re-emerge from isolation?
Enthusiastic! Bands are full of energy and need to get it out, some bands managed to keep the fans engaged with their digital live shows, it worked pretty cool, I watched Katatonia and it was amazing!
Who will suffer the most after all: musicians, organizers promoters…
All for sure!
What is your isolation soundtrack?
There so many OST for the isolation, but I would go for Shostakovich’s symphony NO.5
Besides gigs, what/whom do you miss the most?
Recording and practicing with the band.
Do you have any rehearsals during quarantine? If yes, how do they look like?
No, we haven’t. we thought it’s a good time to have a break and meditate.
Thank you so much for your time. Stay safe!
