In Corona Corner, we are asking musicians how the outbreak has effected them, how did they adapt to the situation, what did they learn. Five pirates of Calarook were brave enough to answer our questions. Philipp Wyssen (vocals), Lukas Mischler (violin), Nico Wiget (guitar), Flavio Pompeo (bass) and Yves Locher (drums) are sailing through Corona Corner.
Hi! How are you doing during corona outbreak?
Ahoy! In the meantime, we are doing quite well with it. In Switzerland, the disease is quite good under control. For one or two months, we stopped playing together and practiced from home.
What have you cancelled/postponed due coronavirus?
Luckily, we only had one cancellation. But since we were busy with the production with our debut album, we had not planned more shows that this one.
How the global coronavirus pandemic is directly impacting bands?
It is affecting them a lot. Especially those, who are doing this for a living. Almost every tour is cancelled or postponed. But we think the people most affected in the music industries are the freelancers like roadies, sound engineers, and so on.
How are you keeping your fans during this chaotic period?
Deliver as much creative content as possible online. Unfortunately, we do not have the equipment to do a stream concert. Otherwise, we would also do a show this way for the fans.
What will metal look like when we re-emerge from isolation?
Metalheads need live concerts. So we think the scene will not look that different. Maybe there will still be more streaming concerts than before.
Who will suffer the most after all: musicians, organizers promoters…
Very difficult to say. Musicians can still earn money on other ways than live shows. Organizers, promoters, freelancers have to search some other ways to have an income. But we hope that all will come through this crisis healthy and can get back to work soon.
What is your isolation soundtrack?
We had to listen very often to our upcoming debut album “Surrender Or Die” to get sure, everything sounds, as we want it. So we could say that this became our isolation soundtrack.
Besides gigs, what/whom do you miss the most?
In the meantime, we do not have many more restriction than a limitation of people at an event. But we also miss to travel around. We do not know if we have to go 2 week in quarantine if we come back from a specific country. The list changes every week.
Do you have any rehearsals during quarantine? If yes, how do they look like?
Here it seems safe enough to have rehearsals together again. But in case of a second wave, we assume we have to do this again from home and plan the release and other thing over video chats.
Thank you so much for your time. Stay safe!
Thank you! We are very pleased that you are interested in interviewing us. Stay safe too!
