Stasia Momento: Quarantine Story

by Ivona Bogner

In Corona Corner, we are asking musicians how the outbreak has effected them, how did they adapt to the situation, what did they learn. Olbap Dibasson, songwriter, lyricist, performer, chants, screams and whispers, sprechgesang and psalms and Ghostly Clown, speaks in front of beyond reality unique Stasia Momento.

Hi! How are you doing during corona outbreak?
Quite well, taking advantage to do some things that the rest of the year are left parked.

What have you cancelled/postponed due coronavirus?
A  couple of shows. We were closing shows for the summertime to promote “Manifestwo”, our second album and obviously this has fallen apart.

How the global coronavirus pandemic is directly impacting bands?
Very seriously. The bands have canceled their tours and shows. The releases, not so much, because once they are scheduled, the best thing is to bring it to light and not wait for “normality” according to my opinion.

How are you keeping your fans during this chaotic period?
We have recorded a domestic video during the Quarantine, it is called “The Real You” and show a bizarre content. You can check it on you tube, we also keep in touch with them through interviews and offering merchandising and records.

What will metal look like when we re-emerge from isolation?
Oh, I don’t know, I have no idea. It’s very difficult to say. I think the extreme metal will be even more extreme… Hahaha… But I suppose these times will be inspiring for artists when creating new and riskier things. It may even be that a new sound is born after this… The AP Metal (after pandemic metal). Hahahaha…

Who will suffer the most after all: musicians, organizers promoters…
Everyone, that’s for sure.Venues, clubs, promoters, festivals, labels, bands and road workers, crews etc… All, some to a greater extent than others. I think everyone must start from the scratch and go step by step, seeing how everything unfolds again.

What is your isolation soundtrack?
Oh, a lot of ambient music really. Arcana, Dead Can Dance, Ulver and then also things like Celtic Frost, Katatonia, My Dying Bride or Dool and the Tangerine Dream’s  Rubycon that I recently acquired and I’m hooked !

Besides gigs, what/whom do you miss the most?
Relatives, have a drink with friends and football.

Do you have any rehearsals during quarantine? If yes, how do they look like?
Well no really, we have recently started to hit hard again.

Thank you so much for your time. Stay safe!
Thanks so much for having me. Take good care of yourselves.
