In Corona Corner, we are asking musicians how the outbreak has effected them, how did they adapt to the situation, what did they learn. Dale Sauve, guitarist and vocalist of Serene Dark, Canadian Black/Death Metal band, speaks for Metal Jacket Magazine.
Hi! How are you doing during corona outbreak?
Where we live in Canada things are slowly starting to get back to normal. The last 3 months have been kind of crazy, a lot of us were out of work, our drummer is an essential worker so he has been very burnt out.
What have you cancelled/postponed due coronavirus?
Pretty much every show and tour being cancelled for the foreseeable future sucks big time. We were planning a tour of our own to promote the release of the new album and that all fell apart pretty early on
How the global coronavirus pandemic is directly impacting bands?
Touring is pretty much the only way for artists to make money in the music scene especially the underground scene so this is hitting us, artists, pretty hard.
How are you keeping your fans during this chaotic period?
We are promoting our new album that we finished recently during the quarantine and have a number of videos and digital content in the works.
What will metal look like when we re-emerge from isolation?
A bunch of really happy, energetic metalheads. Hopefully, more people will get out of the house and go to shows again once this is all over.
Who will suffer the most after all: musicians, organizers promoters…
I think they are all suffering equally, it’s a shitty time to be in the music business, or any business really unless you make hand sanitizer and face masks.
What is your isolation soundtrack?
I have personally been listening to a lot of atmospheric, orchestra related music.
Besides gigs, what/whom do you miss the most?
Friends, family, and just hanging out with fellow metalheads at shows.
Do you have any rehearsals during quarantine? If yes, how do they look like?
We have mostly been focusing on finishing the album so we did actually get together in a safe way to finish some vocal parts but that’s about it.
