The Chicago trio, Russian Circles has always explored volume dynamics, and theirs the albums alternated dizzyingly between chaotic attacks of noise and soothing, sublime melodies. The latest album, “Blood Year” is renowned for calming before the storm: skillful combinations of riffs, drum precision, range from melancholy to hectic crescendo.
