RUN CHICKEN RUN INTERVIEW: We want people to enjoy and have fun with us when we play live

by Vjeran

When we started Metal Jacket Magazine, we wanted to somehow bring our readers closer to bands that might have a harder time breaking through to listeners in the sea of bands and music.

To begin with, it would be best if you introduced yourself.
Hi everibody, we are Run Chicken Run, a Hard Rock band from Italy.

Is it hard to keep all the members together since this music has no income?
We play because we love it, but I think that it’s not true that this music han no income.

How do you finance yourself and can you cover the costs of recording, equipment, concerts with music?
We finance ourselves with our normal everyday work (that is not music) and playing in clubs.

What made you start playing metal music? Who were your role models in the beginning and has that changed over time?
We started playing in 2014. Since the first moment we had fun with this music and that’s the reason we are still playing. Every band player has his personal model and what comes out is a good mix (Ac/Dc, Guns n Roses, Airbourne..)

Is it hard to find a publisher or is it better to self publish considering the internet?
In this world everything it’s hard. It depends on the credibility you want to have.

What have you published so far?
We published 3 albums: Open the grill, Don’t forget the wine and Kill the coffee.

How do you create songs, how do you record them?
Usually Michele creates songs, then we play together in rehearsal room. At last we record them in studio.

Where do you get inspiration for the lyrics?
Our lyrics are about themes of everyday life and having fun. We want people to enjoy and have fun with us when we play live.

What is your favorite song you’ve made so far and why?
It’s hard but I think We’re gonna rock you. It’s been the start of almost every show.

Where can readers listen to you and maybe buy your material?
Everything is available on the main online store like Amazon, Spotify, Apple Music..

How do you organize concerts, is it difficult for you and how many people come to such concerts?
For important events we have an agency that organizes everything. For local events it’s really hard find a venue to play.

In which countries have you played and where did you have the best time, where is the crowd the craziest?
We play in Italy, and the best time we had near Milano opening to Lacuna Coil.Ther were a lot of people and it was Fantastic! The craziest it was in Rome.

What do you think about the digital release and is it serious like CD or LP?
It’s not the same, but I think that music is easily accessible with digital.

Was metal music more honest than today?
I think it was different. Music changes and we can not listen forever the old music.

How do you comment on this bunch of sub-genres in metal and is it good for metal or is it destroying it?
I think it’s good. Contaminations reinforce the genre.

Do you support this commercialization of metal music and how about the wearing of metal t-shirts by some “exposed” people who do not belong to this philosophy of metal music?
Sometimes it’s hard to see, but we live in a free world, don’t we?

What would you change in the world of metal and would you like to go back to the time before the internet if you remember it at all?
The real difference is: back in time before internet, people really loved to go to live shows. Big names or band of friends was a party anyway. Now only big names are attractive. There is no more curiosity to go and see a live of unknown musicians.

How important is supporting the local scene and can you single out a band from your area that you would recommend to our readers?
I thik it’s very important. There are a lot of band that could really get more from the scene. There are some bands in our area, for example Winter Tales, or Void 00.

How do you see this situation in the world and how do you think it will develop? Will they imprison us again, scare us or maybe send us into a big war?
I really don’t know and it’s hard to say. We should just have more fun as possible.

Finally, what would you say to our readers and why should they listen to you in the sea of bands that are offered to them every day?
First of all I want to thank you for this interview. Than I want to say to all the readers that they are the reason we play. We play for having fun with them! So, listen to us, enjoy our music and I hope to see you one day!
