MOTH PRIEST – AMYGDALA

It Follows
Sunless
Three of Karakorum
Sacrifical
Amygdala

Moth Priest is a five-member American stoner / doom metal from Cincinnati, and this is their first EP release, Amygdala.

Although it’s doom / stoner metal in styles like Electric Wizard, Black Sabbath, Sleep, and Monolord, the sound of the album relies on grunge, such as Alice In Chains from the Dirt album, which is heard at the beginning of the album, in It Follows, Sunless.

For Tree of Karakorum, all I could say is is like it came from Black Sabbath’s first album, while for Sacrifical the best description would be a blend of punk and blues metal.

The album ends with the title track, Amygdala, in which the sound of grunge also predominates, but more like Nirvana, from albums like Bleach, Incesticide.

Although it is a stoner / doom metal band, there is the influence of grunge (especially Nirvana, Alice In Chains), as well as the sound of Kyuss, Fu Manchu.

Also, I have to mention the Weedian site, which is dedicated to genres like doom, stoner, sludge metal, and its goal is to promote bands of those genres, as well the Moth Priest.

In the end, it is a quality album, and since it is the first release, all I can say is that they will have a successful career.
