Drudkh – Їм часто сниться капіж
Label: Season of Mist
Three years passed since last Drudkh’s album “Борозна обірвалася (A Furrow Cut Short)”. And now in 2018, they have assaulted us again with yet another brilliantly made full-length. I am convinced that “Їм часто сниться капіж (They Often See Dreams About the Spring)” will be included in almost all “Album of the year 2018” lists.
When you have spent decades in black metal like Roman Saenko and Thurios; and by spending time with underground black metal giants like Hate Forest and Astrofaes, it is logical that you will be able to craft perfectly shaped music.
The new material from Drudkh offers us almost forty five minutes of atmospheric black metal that belongs on the top of today’s metal scene. For almost twenty years, this band has brought us so many great songs and albums, but this new one can be put easily as their “magnum opus”. Marvelously arranged five songs will bring you into world of this Ukrainian black metal masters. Melodies and riffs brought us back that old and forgotten feeling that Ukrainian/Russian/Polish black metal bands made in the past millennium.
Like its predecessors, this album also puts guitar works in the first place. Believe me, they are justifiably on the front row of this material. This amount of good guitar work, riffs and melodies, in terms of black metal, can be only matched by Mgła currently. Roman definitely showed us again why he can be without a doubt called one of the best riff-makers in Ukrainian (black) metal scene. They are perfectly shaped and put where they belong. Not a single second of bad guitar work is on this album.
Ten albums behind this lads prove that they are doing their job properly. Like the previous one, this album also leaves nothing to a chance. You have a perfectly molded music covered with big lair of a cold atmosphere, enriched with lyrics about nature, Ukrainian folklore and poetry. What more can you expect from one brilliant underground black metal band.
It would be really hard to find a bad thing or section on this album. I will not spend any more words for this review. Go and find/buy an album and listen it. It is a perfect piece of metal. You will be amazed how this band progressed from “Борозна обірвалася (A Furrow Cut Short)” to “Їм часто сниться капіж (They Often See Dreams About the Spring)”.
