Postava snimanja albuma su bili: Nekrst – gitara i vokal, Demonetras – bass gitara, solo gitara i prateći vokal i Zoltan Šimon – bubnjevi.

Samrt is a black metal band from Apatin Serbia. The band was formed in winter 2006 by Nekrst and former drummer and bass player Nemanja. 2007 was a year when Samrt recorded their debut demo Poljubi me majko odlazim u smrt (Kiss Me Mother, I’m Leaving Off to Death). The recording line up was Nekrst – guitars & vocals and Nemanja – drums & bass. The demo was released as a split album with a German band On Horns Impaled in 2009, for Darzamadicus records.

In 2008 Demonetras joined the band as a live bassist & vocalist and later he become a full time member. The period of autumn/winter 2011-2012 was the time of recording the first full length album Mizantrop Mazohist. This time the recording line up was: Nekrst – guitars & vocals, Demonetras – bass, solo guitars & back vocals and Zoltan Šimon – drums. Mizantrop Mazohist is released in September/October 2012 on Darzamadicus Records/Miner Recordings.

Since their first and only demo, Samrt switched from Slavic pagan theme to more misanthropic and depressive lyrics, such themes that are mostly included in the depressive black metal subgenre. But Samrt is more then you average black metal band.

Incorporating the best parts of the depressive black metal genre; the vibe, lyrics and vocals and combining them with more versatile styles in the genre and avoids the lagging moments that are frequent in this subgenre.

The lyrics are well written and a special praise goes to the fact that all the lyrics are written in Serbian and smartly includes verses and poetry from legendary Croatian and Serbian poets Antun Branko Šimić and Vladislav Petković. Vocals are handled very good as well, fitting right in the music and the overall vibe. Until you see the lyrics you don’t even notice that is sang in Serbian which is a big thumbs up as mostly the vocals suffer from it.

Speaking of the vocals, Schizo is an interesting track, featuring the most disturbing vocals parts in the album. But in the other hand, it leaves you wondering why they are not included in the rest of the songs.

The production on the album is great, it has that dirty and raw sound but well balanced that you can hear all the instruments, even the bass guitar that jumps in the songs here and there and keeps the listening even more interesting. Mostly all the songs have roughly over six minute’s duration and I don’t remember having one boring moment. Every song is filled with a lot of progressive elements, ripping guitar solos and catchy parts which are pretty much rare in this subgenre. Especially in the track Čovek vrag (Human devil) which is mine personal favorite, but yet again, every track here is worth the mention and listening.

Samrt´s Mizantrop Mazohist is of reasons why the Serbian black metal scene is alive and kicking. For depressive black metal and black metal fans in general, this is a must have.
