PENTESILEA ROAD: QUARANTINE STORY

by Vjeran

In Corona Corner, we are asking musicians how the outbreak has effected them, how did they adapt to the situation, what did they learn. Italian band PENTESILEA ROAD share their Quarantine Story.

Hi! How are you doing during corona outbreak?
Hey guys, all good here! Still surviving and doing well!

What have you cancelled/postponed due coronavirus?
Well, we’ve had to give up quite a few things in life…I was happily going for Live music quite often…it’s been impossible for a while, unfortunately. In addition, traveling has been an issue…you know visiting family. It’s been much harder in the last couple of years.

How the global coronavirus pandemic is directly impacting bands?
It’s pretty much clear the Live activity is been hold for quite a few months now. This is having a big impact on promotional activities and revenues for, virtually, all the bands. Hopefully we reached the end of it, although I don’t believe it much….

How are you keeping your fans during this chaotic period?
Not that many changes, to be honest: paradoxically, as we issued our first and only album right in the middle of the pandemic, this has not directly affected us. However, it’s been impossible to plan any live…we keep posting info about the band’s activity on the social media, that’s for the moment the only way to connect with audience.

What will metal look like when we re-emerge from isolation?
Same trend as before, I’m afraid: some of the big, iconic bands will disappear for obvious reasons related to aging; the vast majority of the remain, still pretending on playing the role of anti-conformists, while being perfectly functional to the mainstream. With some pleasant exceptions, of course.

Who will suffer the most after all: musicians, organizers, promoters …..
Probably promoters: with live activity reduced to the minimum, while the end of the tunnel is not yet in sight, I’m afraid they will pay the most of the price…

What is your isolation soundtrack?
I’d like to lie and say something else, however for me the soundtrack has been undoubtfully Pentesilea Road: when you’re working on an album, you’re most of the time busy listening, and re-listening to it so many times. We’ve been so busy with this album last year, that most of the time has been about listening several times the hundreds of versions of each song version. It’s been a relief, after issuing the album, to get back to listen to something else 😊Talking about me, personally, I have
Enjoyed a lot the last Maiden’s album and the Smith/Kotzen one…

Besides gigs, what/whom do you miss the most?
Traveling and meeting my friends and family…definitely that…

Do you have any rehearsals during quarantine? If yes, how do they look like?
As many know, we live in different countries, so rehearsal has been impossible last year. We hope for the next one! Finger crossed!

Thank you so much for your time. Stay safe!
Thanks to you all and enjoy your beautiful country! All the best from us!
