Mouflon: Quarantine Story

by Bart Tomaszewski

In Corona Corner, we are asking musicians how the outbreak has effected them, how did they adapt to the situation, what did they learn.Time to move to Netherlands now. And now the question. What are you think when you hear word “mouflon”? Probably you connote it only with animal whose face looks a little like a daemon’s one. But this is also name of the (in my opinion very good Death Metal one, by the way) band found in 2012, based in Arnhem. They released several demos, one compilation and debut album, “Devastations”, last year. OK, Richard Smeenk is talking now.

Hi! How are you doing during corona outbreak?
Hey man… Well I am not doing good at this moment. This Covid-19 thing really got me by the neck. It goes two ways.. I had the virus in the month of march and i am still recovering from it. Very tired and still breathing problems sometimes. Not as heavy but still not normal lie it should be. The second thing is that i am in a band and we all know how bands do these days. We are lucky to be at some rehearses and this is a good thing as we are planning to hit the studio next October. But got a lot of shows cancelled and this sucks big time.

What have you cancelled/postponed due coronavirus?
We had some club shows and festivals cancelled for this year. But we are happy still because the most of the are due for next year.

How the global coronavirus pandemic is directly impacting bands?
I think the impact of this virus is bigger then we think..it is just starting I guess. I am sure it will take a long time before everything is back as how it should be. A lot of bands will surely suffer under these issues.

How are you keeping your fans during this chaotic period?
Yes… The fans… Well I hope we have a few haha. In metal the most are real and stay real for life. Lets just hope people will come again if we can go live again.

What will metal look like when we re-emerge from isolation?
Hahaha… Well i think all clubs and festivals will be full of people again waiting to bang there heads!! You can always count on the metal scene to stay bold and strong.

Who will suffer the most after all: musicians, organizers promoters…
I think we all suffer big time because we can not do the things we love the most. But the real players in this game are the organizers and the promoters because they are the ones that are mkking it happen for us after all. I really hope the  most of them can keep there heads up.

What is your isolation soundtrack?
Hahaha where can i start… I am a real old school lover so any old death metal will do.

Besides gigs, what/whom do you miss the most?
I miss the normal life where you can do what ever the fuck you want. Because that is what it looks like now. You start to appreciate this normal life more and more.

Do you have any rehearsals during quarantine? If yes, how do they look like?
We can rehearse pretty normal these days. There is enough room for all of us so there is no problem at all. Next October we are gonna hit the studio for the second album. This should be no problem also. Glad we can still do this otherwise i would sure go mental.
