Izvještaj i galerija: Diamond Falcon i Liquid Steel vratili Heavy Metal u Osijek! (croatian & english report)

by Mislav Mihaljević

Zato što old school Heavy Metal posjeti Osijek onoliko često koliko i nada u bolje sutra.

  2. Samurai
  3. Kingdom Of Silence
  4. Midnight Chaser

2 Diamond Falcon (11)

Diamond Falcon  – setlist:
  1. The Tale Of Itza
  2. The End Of Dreams
  3. Deus Non Vult
  4. Away From The Drumz
  5. Nightmares
  6. 8 – 229
  7. Prowler (Iron Maiden cover)
  8. Fighting The World (Manowar cover)
  9. Diamond Falcon
  10. Turning White To Red

Stay Heavy do idućeg reporta!

Usually, the best gigs are the ones not planned at all. One of those happened just yesterday. The guilty organizers were Rock Tour Agency who led two Austrian heavy metal bands to perform in club Exit in Osijek. It was sort of a last minute call since one of their tour dates got cancelled and this one came up as a replacement. Only the announcement of old school heavy metal was a good enough reason to lift my ass up from the couch because that kind of gig in Osijek happens as much as local authorities fullfil their election promises. I hope you are aware how rare that is.

Around 9 pm the ground floor of the club was in it’s usual state. Regular guests mixed with some new faces having a drink and minding their own business while the sound check was taking place in the basement. After finishing my beer, I went in the “underworld” to catch the beginning of the show.First of the two quintets, Liquid Steel from Innsbruck, started in the good old “ram pam pam” manner and their contagious melodies filled the almost empty space in front of them. Despite  the lack of audience, they played so heavy and with such will it was like they were playing on one of those big and famous metal festivals. Besides the heavy riffing, it was amusing to watch the relaxed behavior of the Liquid Steelers as if they were for example shooting a music video and not playing live. The relaxation started to increase with time so the band members started to play tricks on each other, which included kicking and simillar goofy moves. The first highlight of that not usual mix of heaviness and looseness took place while they were playing a cover of the well known song Blitzkrieg when all of the members of the band ran into the audience to additionaly animate the small number of people that were present. Just when the thought of that being the peak of their performance crossed my mind, one of the guitar players ran into the audience again, jumped on the bar stool and started soloing and headbanging while standing on the bar. Definitely a challenging performance to beat for the bands to come. These positive and crazy guys have so far released two full length albums Fire In The Sky (2014) and Midnight Chaser (2016) and I sincerely advise you to lay your hands on both of them.

After a short catharsis and a few moments of rest, the other headliner of the Eastern European Tour 2017 took the starting position. Diamond Falcon from Berndorf presented themselves with a fast opening riff which clearly stated that they also do not care whether they play in front of 5 or 55 555 people. Their performance was the same; wild and neckbreaking heavy metal. This band has two particularities that instantly strike the listener. The first one is the powerful voice of their lead singer, who goes by the stage name Vin Weazzel. He reaches high notes with such ease that he could easily be compared to the popular famous representatives of the same style or genre. The other one is their female bass player Roxy Riotrat who has a great playing techique and should be an encouragement to all those girls out there wanting to fullfil their dreams of being in a metal band. In front of the vortex of heavy sound that Diamond Falcon was producing, their mascot, a shiny falcon, stood proudly on the mic stand. The lead singer addressed him as “Mr. Falcon” and asked people not to give him beer anymore because he’s still having a hangover from last night. There was a big announcement as well. Their new album entitled Falcon’s Revenge was just released and we had the honor of hearing the fresh material. To spice things up, they played two covers which everyone knows or at least should know – Prowler by Iron Maiden and Fighting the World by Manowar. The audience was thrilled. After a famous chant “We want more, we want more!” they played one more song as an encore.

  1. The Tale Of Itza

  3. Deus Non Vult

  7. Prowler (Iron Maiden cover)
  8. Fighting The World (Manowar cover)
  9. Diamond Falcon
  10. Turning White To Red

To conclude, the show had all the elements of a great show. The skilled organizers and bands, a musical style which is rare these days, dynamic stage performance and a color changing smoke machine. The only blunder was the small number of visitors but that is their burden to carry on.

Stay Heavy!
