Ivory Moon: Quarantine Story

by Ivona Bogner

In Corona Corner, we are asking musicians how the outbreak has effected them, how did they adapt to the situation, what did they learn. From the Eternal City, Rome, Loretta Venditti, singer of Symphonic Metal band Ivory Moon, speaks for Metal Jacket Magazine.

Hi! How are you doing during corona outbreak?
Hi Metal Jacket! Personally my life hasn’t changed so much, I’m a nurse and I have always worked. Although I missed not being able to go out even just for a walk.

What have you cancelled/postponed due coronavirus?
Luckily we had already finished the recording sessions, but we had to postpone the release of the new work “Lunar Gateway” and the making of the video. And everything about the launch of our new album.

How the global coronavirus pandemic is directly impacting bands?
This pandemic has put a lot of strain on many people and many bands, in particular those who are professionally involved, not only the bands but all the music business, therefore starting from the clubs to the record companies.

How are you keeping your fans during this chaotic period?
Through social media we can keep in touch with our fans and keep them updated on the various news about the new album.

What will metal look like when we re-emerge from isolation?
I really don’t know! I can only hope that we will be able to recover, and stronger than before to start playing again! it will take a while before I can get back to normal but I hope for the best.

Who will suffer the most after all: musicians, organizers promoters…
As mentioned in the music industry everyone is feeling the consequences of this lockdown. Musicians can work with some live events on social media to keep themselves active, but as promoters, organizers it’s harder because they are with cancelled gigs and refund requests. We are all in the same situation, we must go ahead and support each other.

What is your isolation soundtrack?
Nightwish, Epica, Kreator, Death, Paradise Lost, Yes, Opeth, Katatonia, Faith No More, In Flames, Soundgarden and many others.

Besides gigs, what/whom do you miss the most? My family, my friends,
I really missed going out with my friends or just to see a movie together. But even just taking a walk, going to concert…

Do you have any rehearsals during quarantine? If yes, how do they look like?
Since there was a ban on going out we could not see each other to do the rehearsals but now that the lockdown is over we are organizing for doing a proper rehearsals but with necessary precaution. I hope it happens soon!

Thank you so much for your time. Stay safe!
