Interview Black Royal: All the Croatian shows were awesome for us (english & croatian version)

by Metal Jacket

MJM: Greetings guys! Thank you for taking your time for this interview. Have you recovered from your last tour?

BR: Hi there! Yes, it was pretty “cold turkey” on Monday for all of us and it has been difficult to adjust to the normal daily routines. But we are so happy to be able to finish the tour succesfully that any sleepiness or tiredness don’t matter at all. If only we could wash this sweaty, tobacco flavoured and roadworn odour off of our clothes and our selves, hah! Tours are awesome for us, that is why we do this!

MJM: During your Slavic tour, you must have seen a lot of Croatia… any highlights?

BR: All the Croatian shows were awesome for us and quite a lot of people came to see us play so thank you for that! This was the first time we’ve visited Croatia and it was really nice country with beautiful landscape and gorgeous women! We also got an extra deep insight of the country from our Croatian bus driver. All hail Ivan! The best highlight would be the taste in music of a DJ/bartender at Cafe Insomnia:-) – We felt like home!

MJM: When I was writing a review for your last EP The Summoning pt. 2 I was quite surprised that you were from Finland. Is this style on rise in your country or you are an anomaly there?

BR: Well, we think that there’s no exact comparison in Finland for us and that is the thing for what Black Royal is recognized with. But over all there’s a lot of doom/stoner type of bands uprising nowadays with all the “traditional” kinds of heavy music. As you all know, Finland has the most metal bands per capita in the whole wide world, so all the genres are fully represented in the scene.

MJM: It is quite hard to put you in specific genre, reminds me of Black Sabbath meets Entombed. Am I close?

black-royalBR: Yeah, that’s it! Right on the money, bro!

MJM: When Black Royal was formed is this the style you had in mind?

BR: Pretty much yes. We founded the band thinking that we want to combine Black Sabbath-kind of ’70’s heavy metal with Entombed etc ’90’s death metal and modern doom/sludge vibes. And that is the type that we have been associated with, so I guess we pulled it together quite nice, then:-)

MJM: What is your opinion on the current metal scene in Finland and in the world?

BR: It’s really great here in Finland and for us. Lots of new talented bands who are ready to organize shows and collaborate with all the people who share the same interest in music. There’s plenty of bands in the underground doing good job to take their cause known better and spreading their name. And ofcourse all the bigger acts have been signed to a major labels and having bigger tours worldwide. In Finland we just have to get the people out from their houses and into the clubs to see the bands and party hard. All the lazy dudes and dudettes close your laptops and social medias and participate in the real live show. Buy the ticket and enjoy a proper live band!

MJM: So far you have released two EPs under The Summoning title. Is there a part 3 in works or a full length album?

BR: No pt.3 because we are aiming to make a full length next time. But we have been talking about the title of it and it could be “The Summonings”, hah! Wait and bleed!

MJM: What’s the meaning behind The Summoning?

BR: We call for every free minded strong people to join us in the mass of individuality and inner growth.Black Royal In this summoning there are no gods and no masters but you and your own goals and desires. There one can choose his own path and follow it without any restrictions. There people get respect by respecting others and their ways. Be sovereign!

MJM: You mention the title of Satan quite the a lot. Do you see it in a more spiritual level or physical form? Or is everything in your works more tongue-and-cheek?

BR: We take it as a spiritual guidance of self-awareness and open mindness. We choose to walk on the Left Hand Path and fulfill our quest of self-growth and learning. From our opinion these teachings are more of Satan than of force-fed Christianity. But as our listeners may know, we don’t take ourselves too seriously and our live show has plenty of that tongue-and-cheek type of humor in it. A right dose of self-irony can be really empowering thing;-)

MJM: After this tour, what do have in plan for Black Royal?

BR: Now that the Slavic tour has ended we start to write a full length album. We are gonna take some time off from touring and concentrate fully to arranging the new songs. Luckily we have plenty of killer riffs and songs coming in! Lyrically the theme has been set and we take as much time with the songs as it is needed and won’t rush things at all. First aim is to publish a new 7” single next Spring and maybe after the next summer we start to look for a studio…

MJM: Thank you so much for your time, we hope see you soon in Croatia again.

BR: Thank YOU for the interview and keep up the good job! Let’s keep our fingers crossed for the future tours around eastern Europe. Stay Metal!

MJM: Pozdrav! Hvala na vremenu za ovaj intervju. Jeste se oporavili nakon vaše zadnje turneje?

BR: Pozdrav!

Jesam li blizu?

Kupite karte i uživajte u bendovima!

MJM: Zasad ste izdali dva EP-a pod nazivom The Summoning.

Wait and bleed!

MJM: Koje značenje The Summoninga?

Ljudi dobiju poštovanje poštujući druge i njihove načine. Budi nezavisan!

MJM: Dosta spominjete pojam Sotone.

Stay Metal!
