The Swedish symphonic metal veterans, Therion, will play in Belgrade’s “Dom Omladine” on March 6th, thus promoting their metal opera masterpiece Beloved Antichrist.
The band described this massive undertaking as a once in a lifetime experience: ” While ‘metal operas’ are no longer an unusual creation, this term will forever receive a new meaning. With an incredible total of 29 different roles and characters, whoall required a unique voice, Therion hired not only a big choir, but also 29 vocalists to bring the epic story to life. “Beloved Antichrist” is the title, consisting of 3 full-length CDs and is more than just a concept album, but a complete rock opera with multiple chapters, unveiling a sweeping story partly based on and inspired by Vladímir Soloviov “A Short Tale Of The Antichrist“.
Therion was founded by Christofer Johnsson in 1987. and it started as a death metal band. The word “therion” is greek by origin meaning “beast” but the band name was inspired by Celtic Frost’s To Mega Therion. The song lyrics are inspired by mythology as well as the occult but also ancient tradition. In 1996, Therion are doing a turn in their approach, changing their style to then novel symphonic metal, combining metal sounds with classical music, with the release of the album Theli. The album featured many classical instruments and choirs, which added a new dimension to the band. From that point, founder and main songwriter Christofer Johnsson and his bandmates worked on incorporating more classical motives into their music, while staying loyal to their roots. Their most successful album, Vovin, was released in 1998, and sold over 150.000 copies in the first couple months of release. Therion have since done 8 more studio albums as well as more than a few live albums.
Therion will be supported by Russian Imperial Age, as well as German act Null Positiv.
