Dark Tranquillity was formed in 1989 under the name Septic Broiler. In 1990, the band recorded a demo entitled “Enfeebled Earth” before changing their name to Dark Tranquillity. Three years later, they released their debut album “Skydancer” with vocalist Anders Fridén. Not much after he left the band and joined a fellow Göteborg band, In Flames. Rhythm guitarist Mikael Stanne then took the position of lead vocalist. In 1995, the band released their second studio album “The Gallery”, which is often referred to as a masterpiece from the era. The latest album “Atoma” is different because there’s more “clean” vocals and it is darker than the previous releases.

Their lyrical themes focus on Germanic tales and Germanic mythology and most of their songs are in German. In 2005, they released their first studio album “Turis Fratyr”. Three years later, they released the second full-length album “Sagas”. In 2010, vocalist Helge Stang and drummer Manuel DiCamillo left the band, and were replaced by vocalist Robert “Robse” Dahn from Pagan Metal band Vrankenvorde and drummer Tuval “Hati” Refaeli from Brutal Death metal band Viscera Trail. The band, reformed, released their third album “Rekreatur”. The latest studio album “Argamedon” was released in 2016 which introduced new aspects because it includes more songs in English.
