CroMagnum: Quarantine Story

by Ivona Bogner

Maximus Rex, CroMagnum guitarist and main vocalist speaks how a heavy and primal metal four piece band from Montreal, deal with Covid situation.

Hi! How are you doing during corona outbreak?
Pretty good, in spite of it all… I’ve found productive things to do with the extra free time it afforded me…

What have you cancelled/postponed due coronavirus?
Well, CroMagnum has not had the ability to perform live since March 2020. I play bass in another band, we performed in Vietnam in late 2019, and we were supposed to go back for more touring, but the ‘rona put a stop to that for now…

How the global coronavirus pandemic is directly impacting bands?
Well, it’s much harder to generate any kind of real money, that’s for sure! We’ve all had to record more music and shoot more videos than before…

How are you keeping your fans during this chaotic period?
Prayer? Just kidding hahaha! We hope the fans will enjoy our brand-spankin’ new album ‘’BORN FREE’’, out in September!

What will metal look like when we re-emerge from isolation?
I assume I’ll wear black… Listen, every metal fan out there is chomping at the bit for the first open metal show since this all started, so I imagine it will be ten times more intense than it was two years ago!

Who will suffer the most after all: musicians, organizers promoters…
Everyone all along that chain! Musicians will suffer the most though, as they are the lowest of the low in that hierarchy…

What is your isolation soundtrack?
Astral Throb (YouTube) at home, Killswitch Engage, Trivium, Rainbow, Volbeat, Danko Jones, etc. at the gym!

Besides gigs, what/whom do you miss the most?
Just being around people and not worrying about distancing, wearing a mask, all that crap…

Do you have any rehearsals during quarantine? If yes, how do they look like?
Not really, we lost two members during the early months of the pandemic, so recording became the priority…

Thank you so much for your time. Stay safe!
