When we started Metal Jacket Magazine, we wanted to somehow bring our readers closer to bands that might have a harder time breaking through to listeners in the sea of bands and music.
To begin with, it would be best if you introduced your band.
We are a melodic Death Metal band that tries to touch as much style of metal as possible in each of the songs. Born Divided is made up of former members of Blinded By Faith, Kalter and Moonlyght. We incorporate vocal cleans and growls into fast, melodic music. Sometimes everything becomes calm and progressive in order to culminate in a final and Epic Climax.
Is it hard to keep all the members together since this music has no income?
It’s always hard to find a band, a team that’s easy to work with. Salary or not, working as a team and leaving egos aside is in my opinion the most difficult thing in a band.
How do you finance yourself and can you cover the costs of recording, equipment, and concerts with music?
We had the chance to record the album at the studio of our guitarist who didn’t charge anything for the creation of the album… Thank you Fred. Everyone has put their own money so that the project can take off. … Hoping to be able to repay with our next shows!
What made you start playing metal music? Who were your role models in the beginning and has that changed over time?
Iron Maiden and Cradle Of Filth really opened my mind back in the days and I started playing metal since then !
Is it hard to find a publisher or is it better to self-publish considering the internet?
It is difficult to make contacts in this area but everything comes with time and you should not rush things either. We are a new band and I believe the time will come. At least I hope. We are currently producing ourselves but we have to invest a lot of time on social networks which is less my cup of tea. I greatly prefer to give myself 100% to the composition but hey … It takes what it takes.
What have you published so far?
Impending Doom is our first album worked over several years. We recorded in our guitarist Fred Bedard‘s studio and he also did the mixing and mastering. The album is composed of 7 tracks and has a duration of 44 minutes.
How do you create songs, how do you record them?
The composition is done by Tommy Demers and Michael Beaudoin. They work alone and together and bring the compositions to the other members who afterwards add their color so that the compositions are those of Born Divided.
Where do you get inspiration for the lyrics?
We get inspiration from all the events around the world. There’s finger pointing at humanity’s mistakes but brings everything to a resolution in order to unify people. Hence why a lot of our songs end with a major sound! But lyrically, we try to be as open to interpretation as much as we can while staying relevant in a context.
What is your favorite song you’ve made so far and why?
My favorite song is The Scars That Unite Us for its Epic, Prog side and the end with the Pink Floyd-like solo makes me travel a lot. I’m very proud of this composition but it’s hard to choose just because each song has its own color.
Where can readers listen to you and maybe buy your material?
Our tracks are available on all streaming sites and fans can purchase our CD album and merchandise on our Bandcamp!
How do you organize concerts, is it difficult for you, and how many people come to such concerts?
We have so far only done 1 show 1 month ago but we intend to do as much as possible in the province of Quebec to start and try to open up the international market as much as possible to us. The next show is scheduled for December 10 in Quebec at the Source of La Martinière with Nordheim, Upon Your Grave and Eternal Closure!
What do you think about the digital release and is it serious like CD or LP?
Yes it’s also serious and when I think of my car in which I can’t even put a CD anymore… The digital format is now a must in the industry and also allows artists to be able to release new material more quickly.
Was metal music more honest than today?
Metal music is constantly evolving and evolving for the better year after year. I always loved listening to what new bands were doing. Today’s kids are really amazing and the talent of the musicians is growing.
How do you comment on this bunch of sub-genres in metal and is it good for metal or is it destroying it?
For me we should stop making sub genres and all …. Metal is Metal. But at the same time it’s good to be classified so as not to get lost in this ocean of style. As I said above, the evolution of sub genres really makes me stoked!
Do you support this commercialization of metal music and how about the wearing of metal t-shirts by some “exposed” people who do not belong to this philosophy of metal music?
I hate influencers… This is nonsense. But at the same time all the tricks are good to make your band foam.
What would you change in the world of metal and would you like to go back to the time before the internet if you remember it at all?
I wouldn’t change anything in the world of metal because it’s the world I’ve loved since my childhood. It is a perfect world in its imperfection..
How important is supporting the local scene and can you single out a band from your area that you would recommend to our readers?
This is the only way for the groups to make themselves known and to stay motivated. All the bands started in small local shows with their friends who came to support them. If the local scene dies… the entire industry will die.
How do you see this situation in the world and how do you think it will develop? Will they imprison us again, scare us or maybe send us into a big war?
The situation for several years has been quite intense… Especially at this moment with the war in Ukraine….I hope with all my heart that humans will soon realize the fragility of our world… United we stand… Divided we fall.
Finally, what would you say to our readers and why should they listen to you in the sea of bands that are offered to them every day?
I invite you to listen to Born Divided on your favorite platform and follow/like our pages!!!
