In Corona Corner, we are asking musicians how the outbreak has effected them, how did they adapt to the situation, what did they learn. Avaland, an Epic and Symphonic Metal Opera, is outstanding project of Adrien G. Gzagg (composer, writer, lead singer, keyboards and orchestrations). This is his Quarantine Story.
Hi! How are you doing during corona outbreak?
Hi! We do our best to be fine!
What have you cancelled/postponed due coronavirus?
Before Covid, we were preparing a show in Grenoble with Rhapsody Of Fire but because of quarantine, it is scheduled for January 2022.
How the global coronavirus pandemic is directly impacting bands?
A lot of events scheduled or cancelled… Really hard to find work and of course, the wallets look pretty sad. And I think we could add the lot of depressed people coronavirus made.
How are you keeping your fans during this chaotic period?
We are chanceful, we’re a brand new band so we don’t really have fans yet! but if we get a little fanbase with the release of the album, we will make something cool like a little acoustic live session or a FAQ.
What will metal look like when we re-emerge from isolation?
I’m a bit afraid that the biggest bands will shadow the little ones. But I try to stay positive and being concentrate on what Avaland could do after the Covid era.
Who will suffer the most after all: musicians, organizers promoters…
Everyone is suffering, of course, the big ones less than the other but I found it sick to search to prove who is the biggest victim.
What is your isolation soundtrack?
Avantasia, Ayreon, Night Flight Orchestra, Alan Parsons Project, Myrkur, Seven Spires, DGM, Night Flight Orchestra, Leprous, Kip Winger, Harem Scarem, Earth Wind and Fire, Kool And The Gang… chill and positive music.
Besides gigs, what/whom do you miss the most?
Human contacts, encounters, evenings with friends at home or at the bar.
Do you have any rehearsals during quarantine? If yes, how do they look like?
We didn’t have any rehearsals during quarantine, too complex to organize with all the restrictions in France.
Thank you so much for your time. Stay safe!
