3xperimental: Quarantine Story

by Ivona Bogner

In Corona Corner, we are asking musicians how the outbreak has effected them, how did they adapt to the situation, what did they learn.  Atmospheric Black Metal project 3xperimental based in Berlin and led by Jean-Baptiste Vincent talks about difficult times we have all been faced with.

Hi! How are you doing during corona outbreak?
Thanks, doing pretty well, considering the situation, but these are difficult times.

What have you cancelled/postponed due coronavirus?
We have just released our new album, and could not have a live release party, not even think about any kind of live event so far.

How the global coronavirus pandemic is directly impacting bands?
Most bands nowadays need touring to survive. With all the Spring tours and Summer festivals being cancelled, it’s going to be a tough years for those who could live from their music. We are not there yet, so in a way we are less affected, but this means it’s pretty hard to grow our audience.

How are you keeping your fans during this chaotic period?
Increase social media presence, write regular updates, and thank the fans for listening to our music even when there are many very critical things happening in the world right now. I hope we can bring some kind of escape to those who need a break.

What will metal look like when we re-emerge from isolation?
The metal community is a big family, and I am sure we will find a way to share the music, the energy, and get back to concerts.

Who will suffer the most after all: musicians, organizers promoters…
Everyone, but musicians will pay a heavy price. People don’t buy CDs anymore, so you need touring. And without touring…

What is your isolation soundtrack?
We just released our second album “Symphony of Elements”, so that’s one. Also, the newest Projet Hate album, and Katatonia’s are pretty great!

Besides gigs, what/whom do you miss the most?
Get out and meet with friends, and family members in other countries.

Do you have any rehearsals during quarantine? If yes, how do they look like?
No rehearsals for now, but jamming and exchanging ideas for future projects.

Thank you so much for your time. Stay safe!
You too, take care of yourself and your family/friends.  Listen to “Symphony of Elements” at 3xperimental.bandcamp.com and don’t hesitate to contact us via Bandcamp/Facebook to share what you think about the new album, or if you just need to speak to someone!
